The Domestic Violence Crisis Services (DVCS) is proud to present the 18th Annual Laranda Nichols Memorial Run for Hope 5k. Domestic violence is a serious problem affecting families in Cherokee, DeKalb, and Marshall County. The DVCS assists victims and educates the public.
All race proceeds benefit abused spouses and their children. Laranda Nichols was a charter member of the Marshall County Coalition Against Domestic Violence (MCCADV) and served as secretary for three years. She was instrumental in helping the coalition lobby state legislatures for a grant to establish court advocacy and to open a shelter for victims in Marshall County. Laranda died June 11, 2005 after a brief battle with cancer. Laranda was passionate about the Coalition, especially about this race!
